Gogglebox Ireland hit screens last night (Thursday 22nd September) and was an instant hit with viewers with a total of 392,000 all tuning in to watch households from all over Ireland watch telly!
152,000 on average watched the show on TV3 with viewing figures peaking at 189,000. It was particularly popular with the 15-44 age group, commanding a 19% viewing share.
TV3 introduced viewers to a total of ten households last night, including new Twitter sensations The Tully twins, Neal and Fergal from Cavan, Cabra pals Jamie, Lindsay, Ashley and Grainne, Castleknock ladies Angela and Eileen and Liberties duo Tracie and Anita.
#GoggleboxIRL was the top trend on Twitter all night as comedy gold moments like Eileen’s Michael ‘Tea’ Higgins tea cosy, the Cavan twins standing for the Irish national anthem in their living room and the Cabra girls description of Marty Morrissey as looking like “John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever” sent everyone into an hysterical online frenzy.
There were tears too, of the opposite kind, as viewers were emotionally moved by the reaction of 12-year-old Danielle Grufferty to a scene from Smalltown, which tugged on the heart strings of homes all over the country.
Whether it’s tears of laughter or tears of emotion, Gogglebox Ireland looks set to have everyone in tears…for all the right reasons, for lots more weeks to come.
‘Gogglebox Ireland’ airs every Thursday at 9.30pm on TV3. You can watch the first episode on 3player now.
